About Dr. Iain Price
Iain has always been fascinated by science - from a young age he sought (and still seeks) answers to questions such as "why is the sea salty" and "can the human brain really fully understand the human brain?".
As a freelance science communicator Iain 'talks' about science through and by: developing, presenting, facilitating, studying, writing, editing and providing professional and technical assistance for numerous science related communication initiatives (see Projects).
Iain has a bachelor's honours degree (1st class) and a PhD in neuroscience ('brain science'). He has worked in academic, industrial and hospital laboratories using in situ ('test tube') models to research how cells communicate with each other. After two years as a postdoctoral research fellow, Iain moved out of the laboratory to pursue his first love in science: 'talking' about it
Iain is particularly interested in communication projects that directly involve and impact on society ('citizen science') - such as the 'issue science' and (Bio)ethics of GM (Genetic Modification), stem cell research, climate change and nanotechnology. Iain also retains an active interest in projects exploring the philosophies of the human mind (see Projects). Iain is an eager surfer, amateur astronomer, keen naturalist and environmentalist, and would be potter who enjoys supporting 'green' initiatives and groups such as the RSPB, WWT and Wildlife Trusts (see Links).
